I’ve always felt slightly underhanded when collecting money for simply helping my passengers do something they would have done anyway but I don’t actively seek money for pointimg them at any particular company. I didn’t invent the system of a cash ‘thank-you’ but I’m not going to turn it down.
Most tours in Australia don’t operate around commisions and I haven’t received any for years. When I worked for APT (high end company), I made bank. Over one season, I had enough cash to buy a return air ticketfrom Australia to America and vice versa. That was mostly from scenic flights. Until now, I’ve not worked in a position to benefit because flights weren’t part of it.
I made $300 this week, splitting with my co-worker. We were lucky – our passengers are well off enough that the extra cost of an excursion on top of the included tour price, is seen as affordable if wanted badly enough.
It seems as if this season will be more lucrative than last years!
